El Niño Strengthens, Poised to Reach 'Super' Status by Year's End
El Niño conditions in the Pacific Ocean are intensifying, with forecasts suggesting it could become one of the strongest on record by the end of the year. The Climate Prediction Center's outlook indicates above-average precipitation across the Southeast and parts of the Four Corners and Southwest from September to November. For El Niño to achieve 'Super' status, ocean temperatures must be 2 degrees Celsius above average for three months. Currently, the average is 1.5 degrees Celsius above normal, placing it in the strong category. The most severe impacts are expected in the fall and winter, potentially affecting weather patterns and hurricane activity.
