Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Northeast Florida Amid Drought Conditions
Northeast Florida is set to experience significant rainfall starting Friday and continuing through the weekend into next week. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will intensify, with locally heavy downpours expected. Rainfall totals are forecast to reach 1.5–3 inches by Monday morning, increasing to 4–6 inches across much of the region by Thursday. Areas such as St. Augustine and Palm Coast may see even higher amounts, ranging from 6–8 inches. This wet weather pattern comes after months of drought, which has left soil moisture levels critically low. While the rain is expected to alleviate drought conditions, the intensity and duration of the downpours could lead to brief localised flooding.
