Doctors Highlight Overlooked Perimenopause Symptoms Affecting Women's Health
A recent survey has revealed that one in three women aged 35 and over in the U.S. are uncertain about whether they are experiencing perimenopause. This uncertainty is compounded by symptoms such as disrupted sleep, low mood, and brain fog, which are common in perimenopause but also in other life situations like stress and parenting. Dr. Nikki Ramskill, a Women's Health GP, notes that many women are unsure if their symptoms are due to perimenopause or other factors like thyroid issues or stress. The survey, which included 7,640 U.S. women, found that 34% were unsure of their reproductive stage, with this uncertainty increasing to 42% among women aged 40 to 44. Dr. Louise Newson, a menopause specialist, emphasizes that while awareness of menopause has increased, confusion about perimenopause persists among both women and healthcare professionals.
