Akureyri Launches Design Competition to Transform Former Stadium Site
The city of Akureyri has initiated a design competition to reimagine the Akureyrarvöllur site, a former sports ground that has been unused since the KA sports club relocated four years ago. The competition, organized by the City of Akureyri, invites architects to propose mixed-use developments that could include residential, commercial, and public spaces. The site, which has been a topic of debate for over 20 years, is strategically located between the town center and Glerártorg. The competition aims to unlock the site's potential, with results expected by the end of May and prizes ranging from 1 to 6 million ISK.
