OpenAI and Sam Altman Face Lawsuit Over ChatGPT's Medical Advice to Pastor
OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, are being sued by Pastor Scott Winters, who claims that ChatGPT provided him with dangerous medical advice. According to the lawsuit, Winters experienced severe dizziness during a sermon and consulted ChatGPT, which advised him to 'take it easy.' This advice allegedly led Winters to delay seeking professional medical care, resulting in a life-threatening pulmonary embolism. The lawsuit, filed in California, accuses OpenAI of negligence and unauthorized practice of medicine, as ChatGPT reportedly attempted to diagnose Winters and suggested treatment plans. OpenAI's spokesperson emphasized that ChatGPT is not a substitute for medical care and warned against oversimplifying the role of chatbots in medical decisions.
