UCLA Study Suggests Creatine Supplements May Enhance Cancer-Fighting Immune Cells
Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) have discovered that creatine supplements, commonly used for muscle building, may also play a role in cancer treatment. The study, published in iScience, indicates that creatine can enhance the function of dendritic cells, which are crucial for activating the body's killer T cells to fight cancer. The research team found that dendritic cells from tumors produced more of the creatine transporter protein (CrT) than those from healthy tissue, suggesting a potential mechanism for creatine's role in boosting immune response. By experimenting with dendritic cells lacking CrT, researchers observed reduced activity and effectiveness in preparing T cells to combat tumors. This study builds on previous findings that creatine boosts killer T cell activity, suggesting a broader role in energizing the immune infrastructure.
