Spring rain will boost Carrizo Plain bloom.
Carrizo Plain National Monument, located in San Luis Obispo County, California, is experiencing a vibrant spring bloom following heavy rains in February. The monument, which spans 38 miles long and 17 miles wide, is known for its wildflowers that typically bloom in March and last through April. This year, the bloom attracted several hundred visitors per day. Although the peak has passed, the hills remain green, and meadows are dotted with colorful flowers such as tidy tips, Goldfields, and Owl's Clover. The Soda Lake, usually dry in summer, still holds some water, creating a striking contrast against the green hills. The monument is celebrating its 25th anniversary with free tours and refreshments at the Guy L. Goodwin Education Center. Rain is expected over the weekend, potentially enhancing the greenery further.
