Above-Average Summer Temperatures Expected Across Washington
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released a new temperature outlook predicting a significantly warmer-than-average summer for Washington state. The Pacific Northwest is expected to experience some of the highest temperature departures from normal in the country, with the heat peaking during June, July, and August. Historically, summer temperatures in the Seattle-Tacoma area average in the 70s°F (21-26°C), while Spokane typically sees highs in the 80s°F (27-32°C). However, NOAA forecasts a 60-70% probability of above-normal temperatures across most of the state, with slightly lower confidence (50-60%) in the northeastern region. This follows a trend of increasing extreme heat events, drought conditions, and wildfire risks in the area.
