Fired Central Maine Medical Center Nurse Reinstated Following Unionization Efforts
National Nurses United has announced that a nurse previously fired from Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) in Lewiston has been reinstated. This reinstatement follows significant efforts to unionize at the medical center. The union stated that the nurse is expected to return to work in Lewiston this week. CMMC is part of Prime Healthcare, which had previously fired 14 nurses and disciplined six others at the facility. The union claims these actions were in response to nurses filing a National Labor Relations Board petition to hold a union election. Subsequently, CMMC nurses voted by a 91% margin to join the Maine State Nurses Association. CMMC had previously denied any retaliation, asserting that the disciplinary actions were due to documented policy and patient-safety violations.
