European Union Increases Humanitarian Aid to Zimbabwe Amid Returnee Crisis and Cholera Outbreak
The European Union has announced an increase in humanitarian aid to Zimbabwe, allocating USD 345,000 to support the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society. This funding aims to assist over 5,000 Zimbabwean returnees fleeing violence in South Africa and to bolster the country's response to a cholera outbreak. The aid will provide emergency shelter, food, clean water, healthcare, and hygiene support. The cholera outbreak, which began in January 2026, has spread across several districts, exacerbated by limited access to clean water and sanitation. The EU's support will also include psychosocial services and efforts to reconnect families.
