UC San Diego Engineers Develop Smart Ring for Real-Time Biochemical Monitoring
Engineers at the University of California San Diego have developed a smart ring capable of continuously monitoring multiple biochemical markers in sweat. The ring, detailed in a study published in Nature Communications, can track glucose, ketones, vitamin C, uric acid, lactate, and alcohol levels. This innovation allows for real-time health monitoring without the need for exercise-induced sweat. The ring uses an osmotic hydrogel to draw sweat from the skin, which is then analyzed by an electrochemical sensor array. The data is wirelessly transmitted to a smartphone app, providing users with personalized health insights.
