Illinois Governor Pritzker Enacts Law Mandating Accommodations for Women in Construction
Governor JB Pritzker has signed into law new requirements for Illinois' construction industry, mandating accommodations for female employees who lactate and menstruate. This legislation, which takes effect in January, makes Illinois the second state to implement such a mandate. Construction sites with more than 10 employees and female workers will now be required to provide a designated women's restroom with an internal lock, a sanitary space for expressing milk, a minimum of 10 menstrual products, a refrigerator for storing breast milk, and running water for hygiene. The law aims to address the historical lack of welcoming environments for women in the male-dominated construction sector.
