Home Assistant Introduces Agent Skills for Enhanced AI Coding and Smart Home Management
Home Assistant has launched 'Agent Skills,' a new feature designed to enhance AI coding agents' ability to manage smart home technologies. These skills are delivered as portable Markdown knowledge packs, providing AI agents with best practices for Home Assistant configurations. The initial skill, 'home-assistant-best-practices,' covers various aspects including native triggers and conditions, helper selection, automation modes, device control, scene authoring, dashboard configuration, and safe refactoring. This aims to prevent common AI mistakes, such as using Jinja templates where native options exist or incorrect entity IDs. The skills can be installed via a Node.js installer or as a plugin for AI coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and Gemini CLI, allowing agents to apply Home Assistant best practices consistently across sessions.
