Strong Winds and Rain Expected in Reno-Tahoe Region
A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect until 11 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, for Lake Tahoe, Pyramid Lake, and other nearby water bodies in northwestern Nevada and northeastern California (RGJ, 2026). Winds are forecasted to range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. Additionally, waves on Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake could reach heights of 1 to 3 feet. Rain chances are high, ranging from 60% to 90% in the Tahoe Basin and northeastern California, with some areas potentially receiving over half an inch of rainfall. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has also warned of widespread gusts of 30 to 40 mph, with localized gusts of 50 to 60 mph in wind-prone areas along U.S. 395.
