Washington and Oregon Face Severe Wildfire Season Amid Climate Change Concerns
The Pacific Northwest is experiencing its worst wildfire season in over 30 years, with more than 40 large fires burning across Washington and Oregon. These fires, exacerbated by human-caused climate change, have led to a public health emergency declaration by the US Department of Health and Human Services. In Spokane, Washington, a complex of three fires has scorched over 10,000 acres, destroyed hundreds of homes, and forced mass evacuations. Fire crews, including California Team Seven, are working tirelessly to contain the blazes, which have been fueled by strong winds and dry conditions. The fires have also significantly impacted air quality in the region, with smoke spreading as far as the Northern Plains and Midwest.
