GLP-1 Agonists Show Potential to Slow Biological Aging in New Study
Recent research published in Nature Communications suggests that GLP-1 agonist medications, such as Ozempic and Wegovy, may have the potential to slow biological aging. These medications, primarily used for weight loss and blood sugar management, have shown additional benefits, including a reduced risk of heart disease and sleep apnea. The study involved 108 adults with HIV and lipohypertrophy, where participants received weekly injections of semaglutide or a placebo over 32 weeks. The results indicated that those who took semaglutide experienced a slower pace of biological aging, as measured by epigenetic clocks that track cellular aging. The study highlights the potential of semaglutide to reduce inflammation and visceral fat, which are linked to accelerated aging.
