U.S. Government Requests Dismissal of California Case Against 'El Mayo' Following Life Sentence in New York
The U.S. government has requested the dismissal of charges against Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada in California following his life sentence in New York. Prosecutors Adam Gordon and Matthew J. Sutton filed a motion with the Southern District Court of California to avoid duplicating legal processes. Zambada, a leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, was sentenced to life imprisonment on July 20 in the Eastern District of New York. The request to dismiss the California case is presented 'in the interest of justice,' as Zambada is already serving a life sentence. Currently, Zambada is held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, awaiting a decision on whether he will be transferred to a maximum-security prison or a medical facility.
