Former NFL Player Daniel Adongo Detained by ICE Amid Legal and Mental Health Struggles
Daniel Ojambo Adongo, a former NFL player, is currently detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Miami Correctional Facility in Indiana. Adongo, who made history as the first Kenyan to sign with an NFL team, has faced numerous legal challenges since his release from the Indianapolis Colts in 2015. His legal troubles include multiple arrests for crimes such as intimidation, battery, and disorderly conduct. In 2020, he was convicted of criminal mischief involving property damage. Adongo's mental health has been a significant concern, with diagnoses of schizophrenia and references to traumatic brain injuries sustained during his playing career. His mother, Betty Adongo, has sought legal guardianship over him due to these ongoing mental health issues. Adongo overstayed his visa in 2016, leading to his current detention under the Laken Riley Act, which mandates detention without bond for undocumented immigrants charged with certain crimes.
