Partial Solar Eclipse to Grace New England Skies on August 12
A partial solar eclipse is set to occur over New England on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. According to StormTeam 5 Chief Meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon, the eclipse will be visible in the afternoon, peaking around 1:55 p.m. in Boston, where approximately 16% of the sun will be obscured by the moon. While the eclipse will not significantly darken the skies, it will be visible with the use of eclipse safety glasses. The path of totality for this eclipse is located further north, around Greenland, Iceland, Portugal, and Spain. In New England, northern Maine will experience the largest coverage, with about 25% of the sun obscured.
