End Gender Apartheid Campaign Advocates for Global Recognition of Gender-Based Discrimination
The End Gender Apartheid Campaign (EGA) was launched in March 2023 by a coalition of human rights defenders and lawyers from Afghanistan and Iran. This initiative emerged in response to the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan and the Woman, Life, Freedom Movement in Iran. EGA aims to advocate for the recognition of gender apartheid, building on the activism of local feminists and women's rights defenders. The campaign has garnered support from over 23,000 individuals worldwide and has been endorsed by more than 100 jurists, scholars, and public figures. EGA's efforts include consultations with grassroots movements, victims' groups, and international jurists to push for the codification of gender apartheid.
