B-52 Engine Replacement Program Advances with Critical Design Review Approval
The U.S. Air Force's initiative to replace the engines of the B-52H Stratofortress has cleared a critical design review, paving the way for Boeing to begin modifications on the first two aircraft later this year. The Commercial Engine Replacement Program will replace the aging Pratt & Whitney TF33 engines with Rolls-Royce F130 engines across the fleet of 76 B-52Hs. This upgrade is essential as the current engines are becoming unsustainable beyond 2030. The new engines promise improved fuel efficiency, range, and lower maintenance costs.
