An unusually early nor'easter is impacting the northeastern United States, bringing high winds, heavy rainfall, and dangerous coastal conditions. The storm, which is affecting areas from New York to Boston, has already caused power outages for approximately 100,000 residents and is expected to continue through the weekend. Rainfall totals are projected to reach 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) in some areas, with flash flood warnings issued for southeastern Massachusetts. Wind gusts have been recorded at over 60 mph (97 km/h) in Long Island and New York City, with waves as high as 20 feet (6 meters) expected along the coast. The storm is also causing a storm surge of 2 to 4 feet (0.6 to 1.2 meters) in some locations, including Atlantic City, New Jersey.
