Huntington Beach Achieves First California Sensory Inclusive Destination Certification
Huntington Beach, California, has become the first city in the state to receive Sensory Inclusive Certification from KultureCity, a nonprofit dedicated to sensory accessibility and acceptance. The city celebrated this milestone, which involved extensive training and the implementation of accessible resources. As part of the initiative, 1,538 visitor-facing employees and public safety personnel, including lifeguards, firefighters, and police officers, underwent sensory-inclusive training. The effort also included partnerships with organizations like Wheel The World, a travel platform specializing in accessible tourism, resulting in 14 city-wide partners being both KultureCity certified and Wheel The World verified. Accessible amenities such as Mobi-Mats, beach wheelchairs, and accessible fire pits have been introduced to enhance the experience for individuals with sensory needs and disabilities.
