UH Hilo Workforce Development Initiatives Shift Focus to Current and Future Job Market Needs
The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo (UH Hilo) is implementing new workforce-related initiatives to align with the rapid pace of workforce needs and changes. Chancellor Bonnie Irwin highlighted these efforts, noting that the College of Business and Economics is launching a new degree pathway, certificate program, courses, and concentrations this fall. These new offerings are designed to teach technical skills for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in business, governance, and science fields, recognizing AI as a fundamental aspect of modern work. Additionally, the College of Arts and Sciences has developed new career readiness materials, focusing on developing 'durable skills' such as analytical thinking, teamwork, ethics, digital literacy, and communication across all disciplines.
