Chicago Trend Invites Community Investment in Minneapolis Mall to Boost Local Wealth
Chicago Trend, a social enterprise company based in Chicago, is purchasing the Hawthorn Crossings strip mall in north Minneapolis. The initiative, led by co-founder and CEO Lyneir Richardson, aims to foster local wealth and community development in one of the Twin Cities' most diverse and economically challenged neighborhoods. Richardson is conducting a crowdfunding campaign, encouraging local residents to invest a minimum of $1,000 in the project. The goal is to make the strip mall 49% community-owned, with the remaining 51% retained by Chicago Trend. This approach is intended to empower the neighborhood by involving local stakeholders in commercial real estate ownership. The company plans to fully lease the property and anticipates a significant return on investment by 2036.
