XYone Therapeutics Initiates First-in-Human Clinical Trial for Novel Cancer Drug XYA02

XYone Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biotechnology company based in greater Boston, MA, has announced that the first patient has been dosed in its first-in-human Phase 1b/2 clinical trial for XYA02 (also known as AT2021). XYA02 is a novel antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) specifically designed to target MUC1-C, a protein expressed across various solid tumors. The multicenter, open-label study aims to evaluate the safety and tolerability of XYA02, determine appropriate dose levels for future clinical development, and assess its pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and preliminary antitumor activity. The trial includes patients with advanced, relapsed, and/or refractory solid tumors, specifically non-small cell lung, ovarian, gastric/GEJ, and colorectal cancers. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already granted XYA02 Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) for the treatment of pancreatic cancer and gastric cancer.

The diversion occurred approximately two and a half hours into the eight-and-a-half-hour flight after smoke filled the aircraft's cabin. The Airbus A330, carrying 296 passengers, landed safely at Porto's Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. Following the emergency landing, four individuals—three passengers and one crew member—were transported to a local hospital. Two male passengers were admitted to the emergency department due to mild respiratory symptoms from smoke inhalation and are reported to be in stable condition. In total, 12 people required oxygen during the flight, and eight received treatment on the tarmac. The incident was attributed to a mechanical issue on the aircraft, according to Portuguese officials and Delta Airlines.

Researchers have developed new statistical models that precisely determine the optimal bromoform dosage from Asparagopsis seaweed feed additives to mitigate methane emissions in cattle. Published in BMC Agriculture, this meta-analysis compiled raw data from a decade of cattle trials to address the long-standing question of how much bromoform is needed for effective methane reduction. The study, led by Claire Goloja of Symbrosia Inc. with collaborators including Breanna M. Roque, found a clear point of diminishing returns at 49.81 milligrams of bromoform per kilogram of dry matter intake. Below this threshold, methane yield decreases predictably, but above it, reductions plateau. The models also differentiate responses between beef and dairy cattle, with beef cattle showing greater methane reduction at lower doses.
