Virginia Data Center Proposal Near Homes Sparks Community Protest and Legal Concerns
A proposed data center development by Starwood Capital Group in Lincolnia, near Alexandria, Virginia, has ignited significant community opposition. The plan involves constructing two data center buildings on a 34-acre site, with one facility located less than 100 feet from nearby homes. Although the project is permitted under current zoning laws, it requires further infrastructure development and county review before proceeding. A proposed electrical substation, already approved by the State Corporation Commission, is a major point of contention. The substation still needs to pass a public facilities review by the local planning commission. Community members, led by former Alexandria City Council member Mo Seifeldein, have voiced concerns about the project's proximity to residential areas and its potential impacts on local communities.
