Poll Reveals 75% of Mainers Find State Unaffordable, 30% Consider Leaving
A recent Pine Tree State Poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center reveals that nearly three-quarters of Maine residents perceive the state as unaffordable. The survey indicates that 30% of Mainers are considering moving out of the state within the next five years. The primary reasons cited for this potential exodus include high housing costs and the overall cost of living. Additionally, a significant portion of respondents expressed a desire for a different political or social environment, with 71% of Republicans and 40% of Democrats highlighting this as a factor. The poll also found that 50% of those planning to leave mentioned lower taxes as a motivating factor. Despite these findings, only about a quarter of Mainers have concrete plans to move, with Republicans being twice as likely as Democrats to consider leaving.
