Rain, Flood Warnings as 'Super El Niño' Threat Grows
The United States is facing a week of adverse weather conditions, including heavy rains, flooding, and sudden temperature changes, as the El Niño climate phenomenon continues to strengthen. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel and Hurricane Isaias are contributing to these conditions. In California, Rachel caused heavy rains, dangerous waves, and coastal damage, prompting Newport Beach to declare a local emergency. Meanwhile, Isaias, which made landfall in Florida as a Category 2 hurricane, has left four fatalities in Florida and Alabama. Its remnants are now moving through the Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic, raising concerns about river flooding and flash floods. Additionally, storms are forecasted for the Great Plains, and Texas may experience a significant temperature drop later in the week.
