Ultra-Processed Food Companies Use Legal Tactics to Delay Health Regulations
A global investigation has revealed that major ultra-processed food companies have filed numerous lawsuits against government policies aimed at curbing unhealthy diets. These companies, including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and Kellogg's, have challenged regulations such as front-of-pack warning labels and taxes on junk food. The investigation found that 235 lawsuits were filed between 2010 and 2025 in countries like the US, UK, and Mexico. While most cases were eventually won by governments, the legal battles have delayed the implementation of vital public health policies, contributing to a growing global health crisis.
