Ofcom Launches Investigation into Climate Denial Broadcasts
Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator, has initiated an investigation into complaints of climate change denial in TV and radio broadcasts. This marks only the second such investigation in nearly two decades. The investigation follows over 1,200 complaints since 2020, primarily against TalkTV broadcasts, which were initially dismissed by Ofcom. However, pressure from the Good Law Project (GLP), which threatened legal action, prompted Ofcom to reconsider. The complaints include allegations of misleading statements about climate change and energy policies. Ofcom is examining whether these broadcasts breached rules on due impartiality and material misleadingness.
