Harvard Astrophysicist Suggests Interstellar Object 3I/ATLAS Could Be Alien Craft
Astrophysicist Avi Loeb from Harvard University has proposed that the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, which recently entered our solar system, might be an alien spacecraft. This suggestion is part of a thought experiment that Loeb and his colleagues conducted, inspired by the 'dark forest hypothesis,' which posits that extraterrestrial civilizations might be hiding from each other. The object, which is unusually bright for its size and exhibits a retrograde orbit, has sparked interest due to its peculiar characteristics. Despite the hypothesis, Loeb acknowledges that the most likely explanation is that 3I/ATLAS is a natural interstellar object, possibly a comet. However, he argues that examining such objects with an open mind could yield insights applicable to future interstellar discoveries.
