New U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers Arrive in Sri Lanka to Boost English Education
Thirty-four new U.S. Peace Corps trainee volunteers have arrived in Sri Lanka to commence an intensive training program before undertaking two years of service. The volunteers will receive training in Sinhala or Tamil languages, Sri Lankan culture, and American English-language teaching. Following their swearing-in ceremony in November, they will be deployed to the Northern and North Central provinces. Their primary role will be to collaborate with local teachers and students to enhance American English education. These volunteers will also integrate into Sri Lankan communities by living with host families. U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric Meyer welcomed the new group in Colombo, emphasizing the importance of person-to-person connections in strengthening ties between the two nations.
