Kansas Families Encouraged to Apply for Free or Reduced-Price School Meals for 2026-2027
Kansas families may qualify for free or reduced-price meals for the 2026-2027 school year through the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. All public school districts and many private schools in Kansas are participating. Eligibility is determined by household size and income, with specific income guidelines provided for households of up to eight members. Some families may be automatically enrolled if they receive food assistance, TAF benefits, Medicaid, or WIC benefits. Foster children automatically qualify for free meals regardless of household income. Applications can be picked up at school offices and submitted at any time during the school year. Families need to provide names and income of all household members, income sources, and the last four digits of a Social Security number or a statement if unavailable.
