Richards Bay Minerals Hosts President Ramaphosa, Highlights Economic Collaboration
Richards Bay Minerals (RBM), a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, recently hosted President Cyril Ramaphosa during his visit to the Richards Bay region. This visit marked the company's fiftieth anniversary and was President Ramaphosa's first official visit to RBM's operations. The visit underscored RBM's significant role in the South African economy and its contributions to international supply chains as one of the largest mineral sands operations globally. During the visit, President Ramaphosa toured the company's facilities, including its largest mining pond and smelter control room, and engaged with employees and union representatives. RBM emphasized the importance of its partnership with local communities and the government, which has been crucial to its success. The company is also focusing on sustainability through projects like the Zulti South project and the Bolobedu solar power initiative, which aim to enhance energy resilience and reduce emissions.
