Massachusetts Launches Solar-Powered EV Carshare Pilot to Reduce Emissions
Massachusetts has initiated a solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) carshare pilot program aimed at reducing the state's greenhouse gas emissions, which are significantly contributed by transportation. The program, led by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, involves the use of solar-powered chargers from Beam Global to power the EVs. These chargers are designed to be quickly deployable without the need for extensive infrastructure changes. The pilot is focused on making EVs accessible to lower-income households by reducing membership fees and rental costs through partnerships with companies like Zipcar. The initiative is being tested in several locations, including Boston and Chelsea, where public housing residents can participate, and in Framingham and Quincy, where participants must show eligibility for government assistance programs.
