Man Posing as Pro Basketball Player Steals $90,000 BMW from Georgia Hotel Valet
A man allegedly impersonating a professional basketball player successfully stole a $90,000 BMW X5 SUV from the Hyatt Regency Savannah in Georgia. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on August 14, when the suspect presented a valet ticket for the gray 2026 BMW X5. According to a police report obtained by WSB-TV, the suspect told hotel employees he was a professional basketball player with multiple vehicles at the hotel before driving off. The BMW was a loaner vehicle provided by a dealership to a hotel guest. The dealership later tracked the vehicle to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, leading Savannah police to list it as stolen in state and national databases. Investigators also discovered that a white 2025 Audi A5, which the suspect was seen in prior to taking the BMW, had been reported stolen the previous day. The Audi was found unlocked in the hotel's parking garage.
