Harry Potter Fans Influence Relocation of UK-Ireland Power Cable to Preserve Fictional Grave
Fans of the Harry Potter series have successfully campaigned for the relocation of a £430 million undersea power cable project, the Greenlink interconnector, to avoid disturbing the fictional grave of Dobby the elf. The grave, located on Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales, has become a popular site for fans despite being on an ecologically sensitive area managed by the National Trust. The project's initial route would have passed through this site, but public outcry led to a change in plans, with the cable now rerouted near Bronze Age burial remains instead.
