Louvre Museum's Apollo Gallery Reopens Without Crown Jewels After 2025 Heist
The Apollo Gallery at the Louvre Museum in Paris is set to reopen to the public on July 22, 2026, following a significant heist in October 2025 where French crown jewels worth €88 million were stolen. The gallery, which has been closed since the theft, will not display any jewels and will instead revert to its original 17th-century function as a state gallery. The museum's president, Christophe Leribault, confirmed that the collections and precious objects previously on display have been removed. The heist, executed by robbers disguised as construction workers, revealed major security lapses at the museum, leading to the replacement of its president. The Louvre, visited by around nine million people annually, has since reinforced its security measures.
