ICE Detains Australian Man in Los Angeles After Failed Arrest in Las Vegas
An Australian man, Phu Nguyen, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles after an earlier arrest attempt in Las Vegas was interrupted by bystanders. Nguyen, originally from Vietnam, had overstayed his visa according to ICE Los Angeles. The incident at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas involved plainclothes agents attempting to handcuff Nguyen, which was captured on video by filmmaker Chris Motley. The footage shows Nguyen being partially handcuffed and expressing confusion about the situation. Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen criticized the arrest method, highlighting the lack of uniforms and body cameras, and expressing concerns about the impact on community safety and tourism.
