Consumer Reports Evaluates Store-Bought Rotisserie Chickens for Taste and Safety
Consumer Reports conducted a comprehensive evaluation of rotisserie chickens from ten major retailers, including Costco, Sam’s Club, Walmart, Whole Foods, and Wegmans. The assessment focused on taste, nutrition, and potential chemical exposure from packaging. Sam’s Club emerged as the top choice for flavor, praised for its consistent quality and deep roasted taste. The study also examined the presence of chemicals such as phthalates and bisphenol A in the chicken and packaging. While no PFAS were detected, phthalates were found in all samples except those from ShopRite. Notably, Costco and Walmart had the highest levels of these chemicals, prompting Consumer Reports to advise limiting consumption to 6 ounces for adults and 2 ounces for children per day.
