Philadelphia's Tap Water Quality Under Scrutiny Amidst Public Concerns
Philadelphia's tap water quality is under examination as the city addresses public concerns about contaminants. The Philadelphia Water Department's latest report indicates that while the city's water meets federal standards for approximately 100 regulated contaminants, there are concerns about 'forever chemicals' like PFOA and PFOS. These chemicals, found in consumer products, persist in the environment and accumulate in the body. Although current levels in Philadelphia's water exceed new federal limits, compliance is not required until 2029. The city is working to improve water quality by expanding its capacity to remove these chemicals using powdered activated carbon.
