Bangladesh Advocates for Global Rules Against AI-Driven Violence Targeting Women
Bangladesh is spearheading an international initiative, known as the Dhaka Dialogue, to establish global rules and standards for combating artificial intelligence (AI)-driven violence against women. This effort seeks to address the growing threat of deepfakes, manipulated images and voices, and online harassment facilitated by rapidly advancing generative AI tools. The initiative aims to unite governments, technology companies, UN agencies, and civil society to develop common definitions, prevention strategies, investigative protocols, and remedies for survivors of digital abuse. Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry emphasizes the need for greater accountability from technology platforms, including clearer labeling of synthetic media and systems to trace the origin of AI-generated content.
