US Government Lifts TikTok Ban on Federal Devices Amid Security Revisions
The U.S. Department of Justice has announced that federal employees can now download and install TikTok on government-issued devices. This decision comes after TikTok's U.S. entity, TikTok US Data Security Joint Venture, was established to operate independently of its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. The new entity is majority-owned by American investors and has implemented revised cybersecurity measures to address previous national security concerns. The DOJ's announcement highlights that the current version of TikTok does not pose the same risks as before, although individual agencies may still choose to restrict its use for productivity reasons.
