The scheme involved fraudulent claims of being an NBA promoter, leading to significant financial losses for investors. Johnson has pleaded guilty to seven counts of wire fraud, admitting to deceiving investors by promising returns from NBA preseason games, which were never funded. The FBI has set up an online form for victims to report fraud, emphasizing confidentiality and potential eligibility for restitution. Johnson remains free on bond, awaiting sentencing, which could result in up to 20 years in federal prison per charge.
