NYK and Hokkaido Electric Power Collaborate on Maritime Decarbonization
NYK has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hokkaido Electric Power to study onboard carbon capture and storage (OCCS) technologies. The collaboration aims to decarbonize maritime transport through a demonstration project in Tomakomai, Japan. The study will run until fiscal year 2028, focusing on the design and operation of OCCS equipment on the coal carrier Pirika Moshiri Maru. This initiative is part of broader efforts to reduce emissions in the maritime industry and promote sustainable shipping practices.
