Elon Musk, owner of the social media platform X, has publicly criticized Marine Tondelier, a French Green party leader, after she suggested that French authorities should have the power to suspend the platform during electoral campaigns to prevent foreign interference. Musk's response was to demand that Tondelier be 'shut down for treason against France.' This exchange follows Musk's previous support for Marine Le Pen, a far-right presidential candidate, which Tondelier and others have criticized as an attempt to influence European politics. The French government, meanwhile, is increasing efforts to combat foreign interference in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
