Marlboro School Bus Drivers Strike Over Healthcare Dispute
School bus drivers and monitors in Marlboro, Massachusetts, represented by Teamsters Union Local 170, initiated a three-day strike in May 2023. The strike was prompted by a disagreement over affordable healthcare benefits. The drivers and monitors, employed by NRT Bus, which services Marlboro and the Advance Math Science Academy, took to the picket lines after negotiations with the company failed to meet their demands. The union claims that NRT Bus's final offer did not adequately address the need for affordable healthcare. Despite the strike, buses continued to operate with replacement drivers, although there were delays due to picketers blocking the bus yard exits. The district has expressed hope for a swift resolution while working to minimize disruptions for students and families.
