Government Extends Exemption for Net Metering and Open Access Renewable Projects Until December 2026
The Indian government has announced an extension of the exemption timeline for net-metering and open access renewable energy (RE) projects until December 31, 2026, under the Approved List of Models & Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II. This decision, made by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), maintains the current policy without changes to the implementation of ALMM List-II for solar photovoltaic (PV) cells. Previously, the exemption was set to expire on May 31, 2026. The extension aims to support standalone solar PV module manufacturers by protecting their investments and creating additional demand. This move allows these manufacturers more time to increase their sourcing of solar cells from ALMM List-II enlisted manufacturers, as the capacity of solar cells in this list continues to grow.
