Wellington Church Closes Doors After Theft of Sacred Icons
St Peter's on Willis, a church in Wellington, has temporarily closed its doors following the theft of two significant icons from its altar. The items, which include the 'Mother of Mercy' and a copy of the 'Icon of Christ and Abbot Mena', were discovered missing last week. The church has expressed deep sorrow over the loss, viewing it as a violation of their sacred space. Reverend Jean Malcolm, who created one of the icons, and Reverend Stephen King have both expressed hope for the return of the items, emphasizing the community's support and the church's openness to reconciliation. The church plans to reopen soon, but may involve the police if the icons are not returned.
